Witch Hunt (1994) Witch Hunt is the spoof sequel to Cast a Deadly Spell, released in 1993 by HBO. Dennis Hopper plays an L.A. detective, aptly named Phillip Lovecraft. Lovecraft is hired by a down and out dame who just got dumped by her millinaire mogul husband. Lovecraft ends up finding the husband killed by magic. It's up to Lovecraft to weed out the murderer. The film isn't quite as entertaining as it's predecessor and Dennis Hopper seems miscast for his part (couldn't the producers even get Fred Ward back?? Not like he has much going on these days anyways). Only Julian Sands even remotely seems interesting. While the effects really don't add anything to this film (in fact the lend to it's chessy nature) the settings and art direction as well as the Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me) music score really add a touch of class to the film. witch1.wav Lovecraft explains his feelings on the use of magic. witch2.wav Senator Larson Cronkitt speaks with Lovecraft on the magic issue.
