The Stuff (1985) This is a movie like Carpenter's The Thing in that it doesn't come straight from a mythos story, but instead from a mythos theme. Now many of those who might have seen the film might think I am stretching it a little with this one, but if you look at it in a different light, it sort of does take on a Lovecraftian meaning. The plot is this...a substance is found bubbling to the surface, a substance that is delicious beyond most things that are sweet to the human tastebuds. Through ingenious marketing and cut-throat corperate strategies, The Stuff has become the most sought after dessert product. Although it has some curious side effects on those who consume it. The story sort of takes two different roads, which eventually meet further on down the line. One storyline follows a young boy who realizes the bizzare effect The Stuff has on his parents, especially after he finds it moving around in his refridgerator...on its own. The second storyline follows "Mo" Rutherford, a ex-FBI agent turned corporate spy who is hired to find out what exactly is in The Stuff. Roads lead to the production facility, and after a few assasination attempts, Rutherford stumbles upon the true source of The Stuff. An old quarry where the substance bubbles up from underground caverns. (Can we say Abhoth or Ubbo-Sathla folks!) An interesting thing is that whoever consumes The Stuff, is overcome. It acts somewhat like a parasite, using the people as a host to move around easily. The Stuff is intelligent, and cunning if you look into the drab plot a little. Alot like a mythos entity. This movie is like a twisted CoC NOW scenario that has its share of some really good sanity jarring moments despite the cheesy majority. stuff2.wav Young Jason tries to conivnce his dad of what he just saw in the refridgerator. stuff3.wav A horrible realization is made at the quarry.
