The Resurrected (1992)
Directed by Dan O'Bannon. Starring Chris Sarrandon, Jane Sibbet, John Terry.

This is a fairly faithful adaptation of Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (granted the transference to the modern day and introduction of a different narrator) wherein Ward discovers his ancestor's, Joseph Curwin, past and his dark secrets. I would have to say that this is probably, in my opinion, the only movie to follow HPL's storyline as closely as possible in a modern setting. This movie is strong mainly due to it's wonderful cast and special effects. We follow John March's, a private eye, investigation into Ward's curious practices, under the direction of Ward's wife.

    Things to Look for

  • Very appropriate settings...including the Curwin farmhouse and underground tunnels.
  • Experiments gone awry.
  • The chinese guy with the lazy eye.
  • The flashback scene (well...at least the end of it).
  • Very cool special fx.

resur3.wav Claire Ward informs March of their first encounter with Curwin's papers.

resur5.wav Ward leaves a message warning of the mysterious Dr. Ash

resur8.wav March reads from an old tome which speaks of the resurection of the dead.

resur9.wav Curwin chides March and boasts of his cosmic knowledge.
