The Outsider One of the most moody and stylish short films to date, Aaron Vanek accomplished what I believe he set out to. To faithfully adapt the macabre atmosphere of a Lovecraftian tale. Working on a modest budget and film crew, Vanek delivered this near seven minute short film, shot in 16mm, (which helps to add that aforementioned mood) which closely follows Lovecraft's tale, The Outsider. The acting is appropriate for what Vanek was going for, as is the setting. What really stands out though...as well it should...is the ending. The monster's reflection (seen above) is the icing on the cake. One viewing is not enough. You must sit through it and watch at least three times to really enjoy the writing, scenery, and music (original compositions to boot!) Let us hope that Mr. Vanek continues on his course to bringing Lovecraft back into the movies that take his name. outsider1.wav The narrator tells of us his ponderings upon his awaking. outsider2.wav Hmm...what's this?!? Did I hear a reference to a certain B_____ G_____? outsider3.wav The realization is made, much to
the narrator's horror...
