Necronomicon - Book of the Dead (1994) Well, Yuzna once again attempts to faithfully adapt a few Lovecraftian ideas, and sort of hits and misses. I found the first and second skits to be very entertaining, and they had their respective momments. Jeffery Combs (who looks more like Bruce Campbell than HPL in this film) plays a less feeble Lovecraft (even knifing a defensive monk right before dying at the hands...er mouth of a real nasty creature) and portraying the "idea" that Lovecraft actually wrote fact of true horrors into fictional stories. Overall, the movie fails to really faithfully adapt Lovecraft, but does have some frightful imagery that lives up to Lovecraft's horrors (especially so in "The Drowned" segment). A neat sidenote is that the producers consulted with and drew on the imagination of sureal photographer J. K. Potter to help add a terrifying realism to their visual effects which is present in "The Drowned" segment.
