Cast A Deadly Spell At first appearance this movie looks to be on the same level as films the likes of Cthulhu Mansion and The Lurking Fear. Upon viewing it, I stand corrected. This film is marvelous. The right mix of campy effects and humor to go along with the fantastic story of 1940's California, where magic is found everywhere. It has intrigue, action and holds your interest with it's well scripted story. The characters making up this film are equally fantastic. Between the hardened private dick who withholds from indulging in magic to the spell casting hitman to the learned occult millionaire who is trying to track down his stolen Necronomicon. I cannot say enough about this film, mostly because I was absolutely astonished that such quality can come out of a small budget and a great casting job. I tip my fedora to HBO. deadlyspell1.wav A grizzled police Lieutenant tells Lovecraft how it is with magic. deadlyspell3.wav Our intrepid hero explains why he dislikes magic. deadlyspell4.wav Lovecraft is hired by a millionaire mogul to recover a certain old book that recently vanished from his private collection. deadlyspell5.wav Them pesky gremlins...I laughed my ass off because this was the last thing I was expecting. deadlyspell6.wav Lovecraft gets dragged into meet a small time mobster that employs zombies to do his dirty work. deadlyspell7.wav This has to be a classic line. deadlyspell8.wav I think Lovecraft should take a clue from his landlady and licensed witch Hypolite Krapotkin.
