The Dunwich Horror / Haunter of the Dark [audio
tape]
Spoken word by David Macullum.
I remeber running
across the old Dunwich Horror LP back in my hometown's library and after
listening, my fondness of the story increased threefold. Returning to that
same library just recently, both the librarian and I discovered that the
record was now gone. Missplaced, lost. I considered it a shame, then to
my amazement, I ran across a clip taken from that same recording at the
Iliad Bookstore Homepage and they were kind enough to let us include it
in our archive here. I did, however come across the Haunter of the Dark
LP, and recorded this snippet from the climax of the story.

The Haunter of the Dark / The Rats in the
Walls / The Outsider [audio tape]
Spoken word by Erik Bauersfeld.
These fine recordings
were produced by Mt. Lava Records in the 1970's and are of excellent quality.
They have been hard to come by lately, until Necronomicon
Press began including these tapes in their collection of Lovecraftian
products. Marc Michaud was kind enough to let us include these clips in
our archive. They are recorded in Real Audio format so you will need the
Real
Audio Player to listen to them.

Alone in the Dark [computer game]
I-Motion (Infogrames Inc.) / Interplay
This has to
be the best Lovecraftian horror game, granted there aren't that
many, maybe a half dozen at most, but three of the "Lovecraft inspired"
games were made by I-Motion; Alone in the Dark (I'm not even going to get
into AITD II and III because I'm not going to waste my breath), Shadow
of the Comet, and Prisoner of Ice. This "chilling 3-D foray" takes us deep
into Louisianna, to the dark mansion of Derceto where our hero/herione
gets caught in the evil plot of Elijah Pickford, who has conspired with
the Old Ones to come back more powerful than ever. This game actually has
a plot, and a back story that is really in depth. If you take the time
to read the books and papers, you get an interesting past of interweaving
stories. There is alot of name-dropping such as a few Cthulhu's, Shub-Nigguraths,
Deep-Ones, and the Necronomicon. You also get a chance to get your grubby
little hands on the De Vermis Mysteriis and a few other old tomes. This
game had me enthralled from the start, and if you haven't played it, then
too bad. You missed out.
I recorded these clips straight
from the game from .voc format to .wav. They are all excerpts from the
various books.

The Call of Kutulu / The Thing That Should
Not Be [midi files]
Original by Metallica. Sequences
by (unknown)
The original
songs by Metallica, I must say, are very ominous. I used to own Ride
the Lightning which included "The Call of Kutulu" and when I first
played it late at night, I was scared. Although I was still in early high
school which might explain some things. I heard "The Thing That Should
Not Be" at a friends house while gaming CoC (the song was played as a group
of cultists unvieled their dark secret - Rhan Tegoth) , and we all just
sat there, dribbling like maddened fools, listening to the intoxicating
rhythms. Although these midi's when compared to the real songs are like
comparing cow flop to caviar, they are still nice to listen to.
The band was
turned onto Lovecraft by now deceased bass player, Cliff Burton, who was
a fan of his writings. The spark of beeing fascinated by the book
began quickly spreading over the rest of the band.
The Call
of Ktulu was the first instrumental that all band members played on
and was released on the Ride the Lightning album. The Thing
That Should Not Be was released on the Master of Puppets album
and is a staple of Metallica's live shows. Interesting to note, Primus
covered the song in 1998. Most mistakenly beleive this song is in
reference to Hastur, however its a retelling of The Shadow Over Innsmouth
to be exact.

THE THING THAT SHOULD
NOT BE
Messenger of Fear in sight
Dark deception kills the light
Hybrid children watch the sea
Pray for Father, roaming free
[Chorus:]
Fearless Wretch
Insanity
He watches
Lurking beneath
the sea
Great Old One
Forbidden site
He searches
Hunter of the Shadows
is rising
Immortal
In madness You dwell
Crawling Chaos, underground
Cult has summoned, twisted
sound
Out from ruins once possessed
Fallen city, living death
[Chorus]
Not dead which eternal
lie
Stranger eons Death may
die
Drain you of your sanity
Face The Thing That Should
Not Be
[Chorus] |
