Welcome to the new and improved website!  I decided to re-open the Mythos Media Archive under the new moniker Cinemagoria - being a melding of the words "Cinema" and "Phantasmagoria" hopefully giving you an idea of how most of us view the attempts to bring Lovecraft to the screen.

phan·tas·ma·go·ria (fan-"taz-m&-'gOr-E-&, -'gor-) n.
Date: circa 1802
1 : an exhibition or display of optical effects and illusions 2 a : a constantly shifting complex succession of things seen or imagined b : a scene that constantly changes 3 : a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection, or assemblage

Although some of you would contend that Lovecraftian cinema is not even close to being fantastic in your sense of the word, but if you think of what fantastic really means...it is defined as something strange in conception or appearance and bizarre & grotesque.  Now that is certainly how I think of a majority of the attempts at Lovecraft on film.  And it also seems as though Lovecrafian cinema is a scene that is going through some changes.  With the resurgance of horror in Hollywood, the mainstream just may be ready for Lovecraft finally and also with the recent upsurge in independent Lovecraftian films, there is a consious effort to faithfully bring Lovecrafts themes and ideas to the silver screen.

As far as the improvements go - this site now employs Real Media and Advanced Streaming Media.  Which means, you'll need Real Media 5.0 or G2 player to view the rm files, or Windows Media Player 6.4 to view the asf files. I optimized the videos for 56k modems, since thats what majority of the public uses these days. However, I have a cable modem, and I WILL include some 250k+ speed files at higher resolution for those who are blessed with this technology! Some of the old sound files will be converted to either rm or wma formats, and some will stay as wavs.  Music clips, such as those provided by our friends at The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, will be offered in the mp3 format. So make sure you have either Nullsoft's Winamp (suggested!) or you can have Windows Media Player play your mp3s.

Please email me with any sightings of Lovecraft material on tv or video that I don't currently have in the review section!!

RECENT NEWS & UPDATES

11.04.02

Well, we finally got our shit together and got the site up and running again, after a two year hiatus. Ok, so two years isn't a hiatus...its a hibernation. So sue me. Just think of it as if we were slumbering in our watery crypt waiting and dreaming. Dreaming of a time when I had enough free time and enough inspiration to again tackle this beast.

We have a ton of new material to get to and post on the website, including getting clips and screenshots from several films (Christian Matzke's Nyarlathotep, Stuart Gordon's Dagon, the mockumentary that was all the buzz at NecronomiCon 2002...A Shoggoth on the Roof, Bryan Moore's Cool Air, The Lurker in the Lobby vol2, Night Gallery episodes Pickman's Model, Cool Air and Prof. Peabody's Last Lecture, Dark Intruder, and finally (long overdue in fact!) Aaron Vanek's Return to Innsmouth.

As always, if you have any sightings of mythos name dropping in a film, television show or in any music, please let me know.

Coming Soon:
Rod Serling's Night Gallery

"Pickman's Model"
Starring Bradford Dillman and Louise Sorel.  Produced and Directed by Jack Laird. Interesting to note that this episode also stars Donald Moffat (Uncle George) who also starred in Carpenter's The Thing as Gary.

"Cool Air"
Starring Barbara Rush and Harry Darrow. A rather heartfelt adaptation of Lovecraft's short story.

Prof. Peabody's Last Lecture.
Starring Carl Reiner. Produced and written by Jack Laird. Carl Reiner does well at playing an overbearing and pompous college professor who's tirade on the ancient cults of the great old ones brings their wrath upon him.

Night Gallery Intro ASF file - 325k
Night Gallery Intro RM file - 300k
